Initially, we associated a backache as a health problem of the elderly at home. Now, more often than not, we find ourselves dealing with a distressed back during the day. It can happen to all of us, anytime and anywhere. Given our hectic schedule, redundant (healthy) lifestyle and some acquired habits like bending down on the table for screen-viewing or simply sitting in a bad posture, adversely affect our spine and the back. More specific reasons include lack of proper diet, less physical activity, muscle tension, excessive physical labour and so on.

It has become common for us to suffer from the basic symptoms of a backache like back discomfort or pain in and around the hips to reduced spine flexibility and sleep distress, more frequently now.
Thankfully, some natural treatments are to our rescue and you and I don’t need to necessarily depend on a painkiller to get rid of the pain. Make some of the home remedies an integrated part of your routine.

Ginger root –

it is an effective anti-inflammatory herb to treat Back Pain. You can directly apply the ginger paste on your back or use ginger tea as a useful ingredient in herbal tea. You even have a choice to sip it with honey in warm water.

Mustard Oil –

has natural healing powers. By applying mustard oil on the affected area, the flow of blood is naturally directed towards the surface of the skin (of the affected portion). Since mustard oil is toxic, one must use it through external means only and wash it off after applying it on the back. It is especially useful for people suffering from chronic Back Pain.

Turmeric –

is specifically effective for the sharp pain in the lower back. Its active ingredient – called curcumin – makes turmeric an important anti-inflammatory component. Mix turmeric in Milk or apply it directly on the back for relief from the pain.

Lavender Oil-

has medicinal uses too. By directly massaging the affected area, with 2 to 3 drops of lavender oil, one can immediately experience relief from the pain. It also relieves muscle spasms and is effective in reducing swelling as well. Apply this massage therapy at home, twice in a day.

Herbal Oil-

continue massaging your back with the herbal oil mix of eucalyptus oil, olive oil, almond oil, or coconut oil in a day. It will help relax your muscles and relieve you from the pain discomfort. Apply the oil directly on the aching area by first gently heating the oil mix.

Garlic –

consuming 2-3 cloves of garlic every morning has anti-inflammatory benefits to help reduce your Back Pain. Eat the cloves on an empty stomach. You can also apply garlic oil on the aching area.
Full-body exercising- it is important to introduce cardio and strength training exercise into your routine. More flexibility means less Back Pain. Also, it helps in maintaining a healthy body weight, reduce swelling, reduce muscle weakness or compressions and improve posture.

An anti-inflammatory diet –

is important to maintain healthy joints and muscular strength. Include high-fibre foods by eating lots of fruits and vegetables every day. It improves health, weight and digestion. Other dietary guidelines include drinking plenty of water since dehydration can increase Back Pain and take Omega-3 fatty acids to manage the pain. Protein is important to maintain muscle and bone health so make sure to introduce a lean, protein-rich diet in your daily schedule.
